Question to the Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Assets : 2023/25 - Mary Dunn Club

Minutes:

Councillor Sterry asked:

The Mary Dunn Community Centre was closed in 2014, the council were still considering possible future uses of the building which could have benefited the community.  However devastating news was released on the 27th May 2016 that the community centre was destroyed by fire, now the land is currently being used as a temporary car park for teachers during the re-build of St Andrew’s School. 7 years has passed and residents are asking me why wasn’t the community centre re-build from the building and contents insurance. As a new Councillor I cannot answer the residents questions as this happened well before my time. Can you investigate and report with your findings and answers to the following questions:

1.      What was the total value of the insurance claim?

2.      What was this money used on?

3.      How did the insurance money benefit the residents of Lliswerry?

4.      Why hasn’t this information been released previously to the residents of the Lliswerry?

Councillor Lacey responded:

In response to your questions, I would comment as follows:

What was the total value of the insurance claim?

£48,801.46

What was this money used on?

How did the insurance money benefit the residents of Lliswerry?
