Question to the Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Biodiversity : 2023/12 - Air Quality, Bishton/Langstone (WR)

Minutes:

Councillor Routley asked:

The recent response received from you regarding pollution within the Bishton and Langstone Ward you referred to many things from heat pumps, electric Buses and people working from home were a few examples you used for future pollution improvements.

However, we can agree that we have no Air Quality Management System available within our Ward.

I therefore request the Installation of an Air Quality Monitoring System (AQMS).

This would demonstrate your commitment to our residents' regarding their well-being by acting and installing an AQMS?

It will enable early detection of hazards, minimize risks, and provide vital data to understand the extent of the air quality issue caused by the gridlocked M4 motorway.

I'm sure you would agree that only by monitoring air quality Will we be able to take a more sustainable crucial step towards improving air quality and protecting the health and well-being of our children and residents within the

Bishton and Langstone ward.

Councillor Forsey responded:

The council would only install an air quality diffuser at a location likely to be impacted by air quality issues.  This is based on relevant factors, in particular the topography of the location, and we take requests from residents into account. The topography of the area in your ward would not lend itself to build up of air pollution to levels likely to be close to intervention levels, also we have never received any requests in this ward.

If a relevant request is submitted for a specific location, and the location is reviewed as falling within the parameters then we will of course consider this.
