Question to the Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure: 2021/17 - Playground and Play Area Closures

Minutes:

Councillor M Evans asked:

How many playgrounds and play areas are currently closed across the city?

Does the Cabinet Member agree with me that it is vitally important to reopen them as soon as possible, particularly during the summer holidays?

Can you also indicate the average time it takes to undertake repairs?

Councillor D Harvey responded:

The council operates 54 play areas across the city and there are currently 5 closed due to vandalism or damage.

Repair times will vary depending upon the type of repair and if a specific part has to be manufactured, which can take up to 12 weeks.

Smaller repairs such as replacement of swing chains, bushes, shackles, seats etc. are carried out on a priority basis and are usually completed within three weeks.

We always seek to keep any closures to a minimum, but must ensure that all play facilities are safe to open.
