Question to the Cabinet Member for City Services: 2021/6- Fly Tipping in Lliswerry and Nash

Minutes:

Councillor A. Morris asked:

What are the current plans to combat the unsightly and increasing levels of Fly tipping occurring in Lliswerry and Nash and what action is being taken to prevent it?

Councillor R. Jeavons responded:

Litter and fly tipping is created by irresponsible individuals and the end result is a significant negative impact on our communities and a burden on Council resources.

Over the last year, the council has invested in covert CCTV that has been placed at a number of hotspots. This has resulted in a 600% increase in the number of fines issued. With a number of other prosecutions pending.

Despite the impact of Covid, our average response to fly tipping is 1.5 days, below our target of 2 days. As part of the Council budget for 2021-22, we announced further investment in fly tipping response teams, which will allow us to improve the performance further.

LEAMS audits of Lliswerry over the past 6 months show that all streets reached grades A or B+.
