Question to the Chair of Cabinet and CM for Culture and Leisure : 2019/22 - Single Use Plastic Free Events

Minutes:

Councillor C. Evans asked:

Will your administration show some real leadership on single use plastic and make it a condition that any event organised in our City requiring council permission be 100% single use plastic free?

To be clear, if the event organisers refuse, then Newport City Council will refuse permission for that event.  Also, will you give a 100% commitment that all council organised events - like our brilliant food festival and Civic events like Civic Sunday will be 100% single use plastics free?

The Leader and Councillor Harvey responded:

A number of initiatives to reduce the use of single use plastic already form part of the work officers are carrying out in response to the motion I presented at council on 24th July 2018.

For example, you will have seen that only this week Cllr Harvey launched Refill Newport and our first modern drinking fountain in Belle Vue Park.

The reduction of single use plastic at events will be discussed as part of ongoing work by officers.
