Question to the Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure: 2019/14 - Car Parking Charges - Tredegar Park

Minutes:

Councillor J. Watkins asked:

In March a public notice was placed by the Council giving notice of an intention to introduce car parking charges at the site, the notice advised that members of the public could object to the plans by writing to the Council.

Subsequently a group led by Louise Smith representing the Gaer Tredegar Park community hand delivered 350 letters of objection, it is estimated a further 50 to 80 letters may have been sent by Royal Mail.

I am led to believe Gareth Price has forwarded these letters to the relevant Cabinet Member yourself or Cllr Debbie Harvey.

Can you please confirm the Council has had receipt of these letters and how many were received? And has each letter been read and the concerns noted?

I believe the size of overall objections to the plan to implement parking charges is substantial, in which case will you review the decision and retain free parking for all at this venue?

Councillor Deb Harvey responded:

We received 321 letters relating to Tredegar park and Fourteen locks. In total 302 were regarding Tredegar Park only and five related to both sites. The majority of the letters were copies of the same correspondence.

Officers have reviewed the letters and a report is being prepared for myself and the Cabinet Member for Streetscene, in which any relevant issues will be addressed. However, this report is not to review the merit of the proposals, which has already been agreed at full council.
