Question to the Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure: 2018/1- Car Parking Charges

Minutes:

Councillor Chris Evans asked:

With reference to the car park charges you've recently approved for Belle Vue Park, in the original budget proposal it stated that 'if successful' these charges could be rolled out to other parks including the historic Fourteen Locks Visitors Centre in Rogerstone.

1) How will you measure the success of charging for car parking at our parks?

2) Will you 100% rule out imposing any car park charges at Fourteen Locks for the reminder of your administrations term in office?

Councillor Deb Harvey responded:

1)    How will you measure the success of charging for car parking at our parks?

This is set out in the original proposal objectives:

·         discourage commuter parking and free up space for park visitors

·         generate income for the service area that can be brought in as expected revenue

·         generate income that will be re- invested in the infrastructure of these sites.

Achieving these without operational issues will be success.

2)    Will you 100% rule out imposing any car park charges at Fourteen Locks for the reminder of your administrations term in office?

The business case that was signed off stated:

‘’The scheme will start in Belle Vue in 2018 before    being rolled onto other sites within the authority such as Fourteen Locks. The roll out will depend on the success of this project.’’
