Declarations of Interest

Minutes:

Cllr J Cleverly declared an interest as she works with Youth Justice. Cllr B Davies declared an interest as her daughter is a social worker. Cllrs S Marshall and D Harvey declared an interest as they were Cabinet Members who had portfolios in this area for the term this report covers, and left the meeting before the Director of Social Services Annual Report was discussed.

The minutes of the previous meeting held on the 26th March 2024 were agreed as a true and accurate record.

Director of Social Services Annual Report 2023-24 pdf icon PDF 143 KB

The Strategic Director for Social Services presented the report to the Committee.


The following was discussed:

·       The Committee stated that they were pleased with the report and case studies. The Strategic Director thanked Social Services staff who provided the case studies.

·       The Committee were disappointed that there was nothing on the website about the Let’s Shine choir event. The Strategic Director informed the Committee the choir would continue due to that event being well received.

·       The Committee thanked the Strategic Director for their work and wished them well in retirement.

Comments and recommendations:

·       The Committee recommended that case studies continue to be included in future reports.

·       The Committee were content to recommend the report is forwarded to Cabinet as it stood.

a)      Actions Arising

The Scrutiny Advisor noted that there were a few outstanding actions but they would continue to chase.

b)      Forward Work Programme

The Scrutiny Advisor informed the Committee that due to the Pre-Election Period, the end of year reports needed to be moved. They noted that new meetings had been created:

-        15th July – Children Services and Education Services

-        30th July – Adult Services and Prevention and Inclusion

The Committee unanimously agreed to cancel the meeting scheduled for the 9th July 2024. 

 

c)      Outcomes Monitoring

The Scrutiny Advisor informed the Committee that these will be reinstated.
